The Nightingale Bar, 213 2nd Avenue (13th Street), was a neighborhood bar with a "stage" about 3 or 4 inches off the ground.  It was a regular stop on the late '80s early '90s East Village music scene, and hosted acts like Blues Traveler, The Aquanets, Strangefolk, God Street Wine, The Spin Doctors and, of course The Other Half.  Drinks started around $2.50 and the cover was usually $4 or $5. (For comparison, in 1991, minimum wage in NY was $4.25/hour.)  Eventually bands like The Other Half migrated to Wetlands and other larger venues.  Nightingale's lingered until about 2013 and was replaced by a beer/drinks/brunch place.

The Stub Junkmen opened (and/or played between these two sets).

Desmond's Tavern, 433 Park Ave. between 29th & 30th, is one of the oldest Irish pubs in Manhattan, if you count six decades as one of the many Blarney Stones that dotted Manhattan.  It changed names around 1990 and started hosting live music.  It was an unusual venue, with long, massive wooden bar running down the side of the space to an archway that opened into a wood-paneled dining room in the back, decorated with pictures of Olde Ireland and the usual collection of framed newspaper clippings, signed celebrity headshots, etc.  The Other Half would routinely pack the place, with a line down the sidewalk.

Crazy was dedicated to Bernard to acknowledge his last night working the door.  Nevermind and Anthology of a Frog were dedicated to Brian for his birthday.  Too Many Moons dedicated to Seattle.

This is a very compressed recording.  Based on waveform, there was some sort of limiter in place before the DAT recorder that was set to about -4.25 dB.  Whatever the source, the sound is still quite good, with just a bit of audience between the songs, and the music is great.

David Gray opened.  His set circulates misdated as Dec. 18, 1983.  Based on the Wetlands schedule, this show was on October 18.  Gray approached the stage towards the end of Surgeon General and asked whether the band could play Whole Lotta Love and he could sing.  The result was totally spontaneous and unplanned.

Franya Berkman was the bartender at Wetlands and a classically trained flutist.  She became an associate professor at Clark University but passed away in 2012.

This was the band's first show back in NYC after a tour of Colorado & Chicago / Kansas.

At one point, Amy says "we've got two more sets" but the show seems to have turned into one long set.  It sounds like the DAT ran out towards the end of Anthology of a Frog.  There might have been a set break in there, but if so the DAT would likely have been changed during set break, and Surgeon General cuts in pretty late, so perhaps there was no break at all.

The Lion's Den, at 214 Sullivan Street, opened in about 1990 and closed in 2007, and then re-opened as Sullivan Hall.
