FURTHUR
Spring 2011 Official Release Mid-Set Fade Fix Kit

This fileset contains everything you need to roll back the cruel mid-set cuts and fades inflicted upon the officially released soundboard recordings. Simply drop these files into the folders containing the official releases, move or rename the non-fade-fixed files, and voil‡! you can enjoy these sets as they were meant to be heard.

Caveats and additional information:

(1) These files were created by "reverse engineering" the official releases. They are NOT sourced directly from the master soundboard recordings. If and when the unmutilated master recordings become available, these files will become obsolete.

(2) The "unsplicing" of these files is exact, but the "defading" of them is not. The fade-ins and fade-outs intersected at a very low level of volume. I readjusted the volume at the intersections until they "sounded about right." They are not just exactly perfect.

(3) I did not correct any dropouts, pops, crackles, buzzes, or clipping. My goal was simply to recreate the pre-mutilation soundboard recordings, warts and all. There are plenty of warts, and those that occur in the fades are now more noticeable. The pops at 10:00 in Uncle John's Band from 3/27, for example, are now truly spectacular to behold.

(4) To the best of my knowledge, I did not introduce any dropouts, pops, buzzes, or clipping in the process of rolling back the fades. That being said, I would not be surprised to learn that I inadvertently did so here or there. If you spot an artifact in one of these files that is not present in the original file, please let me know.

(5) The track boundaries at either side of the "fade fix" pairs are identical to those in the official releases. However, the internal boundary between the fade-fixed tracks are not necessarily in the same place. I placed the new boundary wherever seemed most appropriate. This means that the times of the new files sometimes vary considerably from those of the originals.

(6) I did not roll back the fades in 3/8 or 3/15. These are crowd noise only.

(7) Most of the fades occur in the middle of the second set, but 3/20 also includes a fade in the first set. Fixes for both sets are included.

(8) In order to undo the mid-set fade in 3/29, you must first move Sugaree (d2t06 on the official release) to its correct position in the first set, between Black Throated Wind and Bertha. I do not know why the tricksy hobbits and gnomes placed Sugaree at the end of disc two.

(9) Wherever possible, the filenames and tags of the fade-fixed files are identical to those of the official releases, with the addition of "_fadefix" to the end of the filenames.

(10) The fade-fixed files are NOT cut along sector boundaries. This will matter only if you plan to burn the files to CD, which seems unlikely, since the fades were introduced to accommodate CD time limits. If you wish to correct the SBEs, load all of the files that you wish to correct (not just the fade-fixed files) into Trader's Little Helper, so that the padding (silence) will fall at the end of the last track of the set or CD.

Enjoy!
