General
I prefer to trade shn, md5 & txt files via snailmail, but have a cable modem (Comcast, sometimes not so good). I am not interested in shows with mp3 or analog generations (other than those required by the rules of space and time) in the lineage. I am mainly interested in the Grateful Dead and "related" bands. Other interests include Jazz (general), Miles Davis, Bob Marley (any), Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, MMW, Santana, the Funky Meters, bluegrass and shows that I have been to. Of very special interest: ANY 1991 Dead show that I do not have, any birthday show 3/16/year, GD 5/29-30/92, 10/9-11/94, 3/20-21/92, 3/16-18/92, 3/8-9/92, and 3/5-6/92. I have a DAT list with shows not circulating, although the source is mostly unknown (trader didnt keep good records), except for most DATs came through WELL sources. I have DAT>DAT capability (Sony ES59 > Tascam DA-P1) but do not have DAT>CDR capability.
Archivist Notes
I archive everything onto UNIX archive tape (8mm SUN ufsdump for those curious few), so I most likely have the original shns archived. The tapes take a while to extract from (one downside), so I dont tend to be very fast at trades. I have done a few audio trades, where I have used EAC (properly on a Plextor with correct offsets) to extract the music for my own archivist habits. I will burn audio discs when specifically asked, but assume a shn trade.
Method
I use first class mail, almost always include the txt file on each shn disc, ship in bubble mailers and sleeves. I usually write on the inner hub of my CDs, and will attach a sticker or small piece of paper on the outside of the sleeve. I will not write on your CDRs/DVDRs unless it is stated OK ahead of time. I do md5 verify your discs before sending.
Media
I typically buy media in mass quantities, although I always opt for quality, non-generic media. If a trade of other than brand-name, Mitsui, TY, Fuji (Japan), I would need to know BEFORE trading. I have accepted other discs, but rely on the trader to fix any problems encountered with media. I pride myself on "doing the right thing" and fixing any problems with any trades that I do, even if I need to redo the entire trade at my expense. I have been trading tapes (over 2000+, not anymore, unless specifically begged for!) for over 25 years, been trading DATs for over 17 years, and CDs for the past 12 years (remember when 2X burners were *fast*?).Â
List Details as stated above, I archive everything in shn format. All numbers of discs stated in the list are the number of audio discs. I burn audio discs for my own listening pleasure (as well as that of my friends). I am flexible in how you wish your discs to come to you, whether you prefer a multi-show trade crammed onto as few discs as possible, or whether you want structure, each band onto separate discs. All I ask is to just please state what you wish, and I will do my best to accomodate.
