I hadn't seen Stereophonics live before, but I've got all of their albums. They're just one of those bands that I hadn't made the extra effort for. Nevertheless, they also belong to the set of bands whose music reminds me of a certain time and place in my life. 'Just Looking' was on the radio all the time in '99 when I met my future wife, who wasn't remotely interested in me at the time. Somehow, 'Just Looking' became one of several songs that I was listening to at the time that took on a biographical connotation. Dutch band De Staat warmed up the crowd and were surprisingly good for a Dutch outfit. I wish I had recorded them. Stereophonics took to the stage at about 21:30. The crowd was well-behaved, apart from the usual tedious cigarette smoking. Surprisingly, there was no moshing at all in my area. The audience were enthusiastic, but modest in their expression of it, which made it a very easy gig to record; the polar opposite of my experience at the same venue last year when I recorded The Prodigy. The group were in fine fettle and the sound was well mixed, I think you'll agree shines through in the recording. As usual with my recordings, no mastering has taken place. You're hearing it the way I did. Enjoy! |
