A must-have SECRET SHOW for any fan of Mike Patton in front of 200 people at a small bar in Chicago. I hope this inspires more people to open the vaults. Tomahawk was on tour with Tool and Maynard got sick, resulting in the cancellation of the Moline, IL performance. Because of this cancellation, Tomahawk was able to throw this show together at the last minute. The only promotion this show received was a last-minute posting in the Ipecec forums on the day of show. I was fortunate to have had someone I had previously traded with email me with a heads up and I immediately began calling friends. Very hostile stance towards taping the Empty Bottle show. I’ve never encountered anything like it before or since. Tomahawk posted signs throughout the bar stating that if you were caught recording, your equipment would be smashed in front of you. Some photos from the show are included. Track 14 is an improv jam w/ Ken Vandermark of The Ken Vandermark 5 who opened the show. You will not find this anywhere else *** During opening band’s set, Mike was just standing at the bar having a few drinks and was totally approachable. You’ll hear Patton acknowledge a fan sharing beer with him throughout the show. That was one of my friends doing that and it earned us a photo w/ Patton in the alley after the show. Anyway this gives you an idea of just how small this show was and how fortunate we all were to be there. BONUS TRACKS: TOMAHAWK (opening for Tool) August 29, 2002 The United Center Chicago,IL UNCIRCULATED MASTER (Tracks 16-21) This is all I have…mic came unplugged…I was so pissed. At one point (that’s unfortunately missing) Mike started insulting Michael Jordan to get the crowd to turn on him and it worked. Great stuff! |
