Note | General Notes:
Three sources from the LMA provided coverage for this matrix: a different SBD for each set, and a very nice sounding FOB AUD recorded by Steve Hopkins. While the first set SBD source suffers greatly from previous NR, the second set SBD is superb, resulting in an excellent matrix. Multiple requests from the audience for St. Stephen in the first set help to resurrect this gem (not played since Halloween 1971). Another resurrection is a stirring High Time, stashed since 7-12-70. Most notable IMHO is the 8+ minute intro to Eyes which clocks in at 17:17 total. Some consider this show second only to the 7-18 show for 1976 with the 6-29 up there as well, definately in the top 3. While the intro to St. Stephen is AUD only, it is still quite listenable, with the crowd reacting strongly, and the matrix kicks in once the vocals start. A Franklin's encore is also an added bonus. Thanks to Steve Hopkins for recording the FOB AUD, Dave Minor and Dave Handrich for DAT/CDR dupes, and Matt Vernon for the AUD editing and conversion. Thanks to J Cotsman for the Set 1 SBD. Thanks to Paul Bottiglio for the set 2 SBD source discs, and to Tony G for converting and seeding them. Thanks to Jonathan Aizen for uploading all 3 sources to the Llama. Enjoy! Chappy |

Tech Note | Editing Notes: Timeline/Tracking Notes: In order to fit the first set on one 80 min. disc, I edited out some crowd in between songs, crossfading so the transitions are smooth. The transition between the disc 2 and 3 can be put together seemlessly. Editing Notes: - Pitch Both sources were pitched differently, the AUD being the sharpest, and the SBD being the flatest. I used the SBD as my master timeline and pitch referenced the AUD to it. The AUD on average had to be pitched down about -.18 (18 cents) for set 1 and about -.07 (7 cents) for set 2 to achieve pitch correction - 1.00 being 100 cents which is a semitone. I did not reference A=440 as I did not desire to pitch adjust the SBD. Set 2 is very close though to A=440. - Synch Even after pitch correcting the other two sources to the FOB AUD, because of the speed fluctuation within a given source, multiple edits were performed to keep the sources synched. Because the SBD was my master pitch and time ref, the AUD was synched to the SBD (too many edits to list). - Sonic Quality/Matrix ratio I did choose to employ a slight amount EQ to the first set SBD to regain some of what was lost by the previous NR. The result is OK for the first set, but the SBD was not that great to begin with. The second set SBD did receive a little limiting (Waves L2) to give it a little more presence when coupled with the AUD with excellent results. Conceptually, all I was trying to do here is to add some dimension to the SBD, which is pretty dry but very crisp, by using the ambience of the AUD. The result is a lively but clear recording, hopefully close to how it sounded at the show. If I had to guess the SBD/AUD ratio would be somewhere between 3:1 and 4:1, leaning more towards the 4:1 end of things. - Edits The following are places where the SBD had holes or incomplete coverage in reference to the final matrix timeline. SBD: d1t01 (0:00 - 2:31) - missing d1t01 (6:31 - 7:32) - missing (crowd) d1t02 (4:41 - 6:15) - missing (crowd) d1t03 (9:03 - 10:36) - missing (crowd) d1t04 (5:17 - 7:20) - missing (crowd) d1t05 (11:10 - 12:52) - missing (crowd) d1t06 (0:00 - 5:54) - missing all d1t07 (6:36 - 7:08) - missing (crowd) d1t07 (7:33 - 7:43) - missing (crowd) d1t08 (8:18 - 9:25) - missing (crowd) d1t09 (7:27 - 8:39) - missing (crowd) d1t10 (3:26 - 3:34) - missing (crowd) d2t01 (0:00 - 2:52) - missing all (crowd) d2t02 (0:00 - 0:57) - missing d2t04 (10:44 - 14:18) - missing (crowd) d2t05 (4:46 - 6:37) - missing (crowd) d2t07 (4:17 - 5:32) - missing (crowd) d2t08 (8:53 - 9:41) - missing (crowd) d3t01 (5:58 - 7:39) - missing (crowd) d3t02 (6:59 - 7:27) - missing (crowd) d3t03 (5:59 - 6:00) - replaced stereo track w/ right channel only (dropout) d3t03 (6:13 - 6:39) - missing d3t05 (6:35 - 8:11) - missing (crowd) AUD: Set 1 had parts of the crowd in between songs edited out so as to fit the whole set on one disc. - Recap The AUD has full coverage. Note that alot of the missing elements from the SBD source are just crowd segments except for the first 2 minutes of Cold Rain, all of Big River, the first minute of St. Stephen, and about a half minute in the middle of Dancin'. Other than that, the rest of the SBD is intact. |
