       This was MY first Conehead Buddha show.
       Jason Harris taped the show from the SBD, and I copied his master
       when we were in Charleston in 1998.

Notes: 
I put a lot of thought into whether or not I should seed this show. 
The quality on it marginal to say the least. It was sourced from a 
VHS tape of unknown generations. I do not even remember where I obtained
the original VHS from. (Colleen Smith maybe? If so thank you!)
I did the absolute best I could to make it listenable, although it's still
a difficult listen.
I'm not sure who TJ Smith was, all I know is that he was a Bethlehem High 
School student, who passed away, and they had a memorial for him.
Conehead Buddha played..possibly others too.
Based on the footage....I'm guessing they played in the gym.
I don't know who shot the video, and I don't know how far down the line 
from the original my copy is.
I'm not even sure of the exact date, although 3/10/96 seems logical and is
a "best guess"

To seed or not to seed....

Since a better source is likely to never appear, I decided to share this.
I figure someone out there went to the show, or knew who TJ Smith was, and 
this might be important and mean something to someone.

Keep all this in mind while listening, warts and all.

Notes: Another from the Jason Harris stash - simply labeled "Raleigh NC" when
I copied it from him in Charleston 1998. The date is either 4/5/96 or 5/4/96,
the venue is not known. This was likely an opening set for some other band.
Jason probably taped it, no other info is known.
The mix has a lot of bass, I reduced it with Audacity to improve the overall
sound a bit.
Edits: There was a gap in I Wanna Be Like You, that I edited out, and 
Sights cuts off, so I added a fade out.

* The fact that Clyde is on this recording, has me leaning toward 5/4/96
being the correct date. Dan Maloney (trombone) quit the band around this time,
the last recording with Dan is the 3/27/96 Atlanta show.
So Clyde either joined them at this point (he had played previously with the
band in 1995 - see 8/6/95), or this recording is from a second trip down south
in May of 1996. 
Either way this is a rarity. It also contains the earliest versions of
Mary Pearl, Hey Jody and Sights.

Notes: 
This recording was plagued with sound issues, cuts, static and missing chunks of songs.
I have no idea who recorded this, or where I got the tape from.
The songs in brackets were played, but unable to be salvaged.
The Rustic Overtones were the opening band. 
Once We Get Started was a live soundcheck.
Goody girl was a debut, but the second half of it had static issues, so I opted for a fadeout.
The same static issues were present at the beginning of School Daze, thus the fade in.
Half of Mary Pearl was missing, and the sound quality on Hey Jody thru Swedish Girls was so unbearable 
(due to age and tape rot) that I gave up trying to save them, and ended up cutting them out of the final
master.
You'll hear a glitch in So Cold, where there is a slight dropout.
And Sights cuts off, so I added a fade out. (We'll eventually get to a recording where Sights does not get
sliced in half!)

Every dark cloud has a silver lining though!
What remains is quite listenable. 
This was Shannon Lynch's first show as a full time member of Conehead Buddha.
Clyde Wilburn is on trombone.
Not to mention that this is the earliest known recording of the band playing at Valentines,
the club that they would make their "home away from home" in the years to come.
Dispite it's flaws, it's a rare bit of history, and should be enjoyed as such.

Notes: Whoever they had mixing sound this night was a terrible soundman,
(but a nice guy - I remember buying him a shot in exchange for letting me
plug into the 1/4 inch outson the back of the soundboard.) As a result, 
it's a typical bar band recording, with plenty of sound adjustments going
on, and spots of feedback here and there, as well and not being mixed
terribly well. 
Gotta give shout outs on this one to Chris Lane (my brother) for help
with recording and Allison Borden and all her roommates for help with
transportation, tape deck borrowing, and overall hospitality this weekend. 
It's also worth noting that this is the only time I can ever recall that
Johnny and the Fighting Boys was played in the first set. This is also the
earliest known RECORDED version of the song. (although it had been around
for several months at this point.)
We had a lot of fun at this show. I remember it being cold, and us being
thankful for that woodstove that was in Old City Hall.
