+ w/Gunga Giri
* w/John Dutro
Program Notes: This performance was a single set 'lila' that ran from 1:00am until dawn.
John Hooley sat in the entire show on woodwinds, vocals and various devices.
The band's regular soundman was absent, and the engineer deserves credit for adapting
to an exotic mix of seven core players & their many unique instruments, as well as an
array of guest performers. He also shared duties fixing technical stage issues on the fly
in the dark desert night, and as a result there are moments when the mix is imbalanced.
The time that elapses until the mix is corrected you can be assured a more urgent fire
was being put out. There are other mixing adjustments that occur sporadically during
songs, as well as some low level buzz (grounding on an amp possibly) in spots, but the
vast majority of the performance is a treat to the ears. It was magic to be on hand.
Much love to the band for sharing this onward.
