in september of 1998 wayne horvitz brought zony mash back to his old haunting grounds of nyc.  if you did not know already, horvitz was part of the 'downtown' scene in the 1980's, which also included john zorn, elliot sharp, bill frisell, and lots of others.  Horvitz was a member of zorn's naked city, if that rings a bell.

Horvitz did a series of shows at the knitting factory, with a variety of old friends dropping in.  this show has briggan krauss, who originally hooked up with horvitz in seattle as a member of Horvitz's band Pigpen (now defunct), but then moved to NYC.  Also present is bill ware, esteemed member of the Jazz Passengers, and Steely Dan's touring vibe player.  They only show up on a couple of tracks, but I forgot to write down which ones, so let it be a surprise....

FWIW, to my ear Krauss' contributions are so far out as to be disconnected from the music completely - however, he only shows up on two tracks, if i recall.  I love his work with Pigpen, but here he just doesn't seem to connect.  On the other hand,  Ware's guest spots are really nice, and demonstrate how adept zony mash is, to boot...  What do you think?

Sound quality is perfectly fine for an audience.
