Source Infoaudience: Official CD Release
J-Card Comment!! Zoooma Says !! Usually one would probably give an official release an A+ because the sound quality is gonna be stellar. Well, not so with this one. It’s an audience capture from the audience with an unknown recorder with an internal mic. The cassette was recently re-discovered and a year and a day shy of the 50th anniversary of the show, it got an official release. The journalist only had a 60 minute tape so what he recorded isn’t the full show but still a nice bit of it. The quality actually ain’t too bad, certainly listenable and enjoyable. I’ve dug hearing this several times now. Nice solid B grade aud – 8.422 out of 10. ‒► B ◄‒ (D) Poor ➔ (C) Good ➔ (B) Very Good ➔ (A) Excellent

CommentOfficial Release of audience recording:

Recorded October 17, 1971 at the Painters Mill Music Fair in Owings Mills, MD, the show took place just 12 days before Duane Allman died in a tragic motorcycle accident.

The show was captured on a handheld cassette machine by 18-year-old radio journalist Sam Idas, and is described as a “simple audience recording”, enhanced by modern technology.

“It was a totally spontaneous decision. I'd been to many concerts, but this was the only time I had the thought - and the motivation - to record the show.”

That cassette was eventually uncovered a few years ago, and when ABB manager Bert Holman caught wind of it, that set the wheels in motion for a release.

Brother Duane's last show.
