Note | Pink Floyd 1971-02-12 Colchester, 2nd gen [16-44]
Pink Floyd Lecture Theatre Block 6 & 7, University of Essex, Wivenhoe Park, Colchester, England 12 February 1971 Lineage: 2nd gen Maxell XLII 90 cassettes (1988/9) > Technics RS-B565-MH > Tascam SD-20M > WAV (24bit/96kHz) > Reaper v5.983 > FLAC (24bit/96kHz) > Adobe Audition 2.0 for speed correction and track divides > FLAC (16bit/44 Total running time 1 hour 36 minutes 43 seconds This 2nd gen has good top end and punchiness and gives a greater sense of being in the room than other sources I have heard. It is also more complete. On the downside, the recording is more hissy than I would generally expect for a second gen. In skilled re-mastering hands - sympathetically tackling the hiss and removing the occasionally audible mains hum - I have no doubt that this capture would rank amongst the best sounding Pink Floyd 1971 audience recordings. The taper for this concert was Chris B. Chris used to live in Bromley, Kent. If you are reading this, Chris, I understand that back in the day you had four or five shows that nobody else has. I'd love to help you archive your recordings. Colchester is the last in a recent series of releases of tapes I borrowed from a German collector friend. My thanks, once again, to pelino for speed correcting my transfer. Neonknight, September 2020 |
