Daspy Notes:
My friends Paul and Patti are part of a group that gets together every year
for a weekend of shows and fun. This year they were going to see Steely
Dan and wanted me to meet their friends and join in the fun. Recordings of
the shows were also a goal. Drove down and met up at Terry and Lorna's house.
Also met OJ at the house. There were 2 seats on the side, row P and the rest
center 2 rows behind soundboard. We decided OJ and I would take the row P seats
and we left at 5 for the show. Anyone who has never experienced LA traffic
consider themselves lucky. Should have been a 20-30 minute drive but took us
well over an hour. I was stressing a bit not knowing the venue or security.
We finally arrived and picked up tickets at will call. I had my backpack with
a computer and some unopened plastic bottles as well as my gear. The woman
at the door started to give me a hard time about the computer. She said to me
I couldn't bring it in because it could be used to record the concert. I said
"huh? I can't leave it in the car" and she said she would check. Was told it
was OK and in I went. Recorded the opening band from he seats in P and couldn't
believe how disrespectful some folks were. There was a woman behind me and
five seats to my left who was talking so loud I could hear her over the music.
The person she was talking at was 3 seats away. I finally asked her to be quiet
while wearing the mics. Between sets Paul offered to swap and I figured it
would be better to be dead center a few rows back. Good results but levels
were a bit low and were fixed using Soundforge. Enjoy, second night to follow.
