Daspy Notes:
Night 2 of 6 of the Ben Harper, Trombone Shorty and Jessy Wilson tour.

I woke up, copied an untracked version of the Philadelphia recordings to my
phone, got in my car and took off for New York. It sure made my drive more
enjoyable. I got to NY, parked the rental car in a parking lot for 3 days
and got to my friend's place, let myself in and got ready. Since I wasn't
sure about security I went with the BabyNBox, got some coffee and took the
subway to the venue. I arrived and met friends who were waiting on line. I
didn't quite know what to expect from this venue but I had heard good reviews.
Got through security, took the escalators up and got to the roof top. What an
amazing place. Behind the stage was the Brooklyn Bridge and looking around
were the tall buildings New York is known for. Jessy Wilson came out. I could
tell the sound was good a few minutes in. She seemed thrilled to be there and
told the small crowd that she grew up in Brooklyn. Her set was longer than the
previous night and was enjoyable. After a short break Trombone Shorty came on.
Again, a high energy set. Since I don't know the material it seemed like a
similar set but there was more energy because the crowd had more energy. The
sax and trombone solos were excellent and while the crowd was really into it
they were also not taper unfriendly. After a break the Ben Harper set came on
and played almost the same set. Different songs were more enjoyable and all in
all it was a fun set. The sound was great and the energy from the crowd was
much better than Philadelphia. That is the difference between a reserved seat
show and a GA show where the FRIC are riding the rail. The only disappointment
was the 10PM curfew which made for an earlier night and one less song. After
the show I hopped on the subway a few stops and made it to my friend's bar for
a few beers. Fun night for sure.
