Comment | Tut Taylor – Dobro, dulcimer
Norman Blake – guitar, vocals Sam Bush – mandolin Butch Robins – banjo Charlie Collins – fiddle Nancy Blake – cello Mitch’s notes: Tut Taylor Archive Reel #285 begins with the first part of an opening set from Tut and his all-star group of friends live at Nashville’s Exit/In on October 4, 1973. It is nice, and unusual, to hear Tut playing one of his own Tennessee Dulcimer Works dulcimers on “Autry’s Peach Orchard” (or a tune that bears a striking similarity to a tune of that name that appeared on Tut’s 1975 Flying Fish LP, “The Old Post Office”, where he played Dobro instead of dulcimer). Tut mentions Doug Green, but he does not appear on the portion of the set found here. A wonderful solo set by John Hartford follows. For those keeping track of such things, this tape was previously released by the Steam Powered Preservation Society. See Tut Reels #276, #277, #280, #281, #282, #283, #284, and #286 for other Tut & Friends recordings made at the Exit/In during a run of shows from 10/2 – 10/6/73. |
