Comment | Tut Taylor – Dobro, mandolin
John Hartford – fiddle Sam Bush – mandolin Butch Robins – banjo Charlie Collins – guitar Doug Green – bass Mitch’s notes: Tut Taylor Archive Reel #281 finds Tut & Friends at the famed Nashville nightclub, Exit/In (opening for John Hartford, who sits in here on fiddle). The tape label “guesses” at a recording date—October 2, 1973. However, another recording in Tut’s archives from this date (Tut Reel #280) features Norman Blake, who is absent here; the band aggregation present here (with John Hartford on fiddle, minus Norman Blake) is heard on Tut Reel #276 recorded on October 3, 1973. To be safe, let’s date this tape October 2 or 3, 1973. Tut announces that the show is being recorded with the hopes of releasing an album; alas, this never materialized, but we’re privileged to listen in on a great set. See Tut Reels #276, #277, #280, #282, #283, #284, #285, and #286 for other Tut & Friends recordings made at the Exit/In during a run of shows from 10/2 – 10/6/73. |
