| J-Card Comment | Notes: This was my first time seeing Billy and I'm glad I got the chance. This venue isn't really on my radar. They don't promote so much that it catches my attention, so I heard about it by word of mouth a week or so before the show. Being the Mahavishnu fan I am, I can't believe after all these years of never seeing either one of them that in the span of just a few months I got to see John McLaughlin and Billy Cobham play at venues just a few miles apart in Indy. This was the second of two shows that night, and they played two more shows the next night. I got a picture of the setlist, so I'm pretty sure this is accurate. The Jazz Kitchen is what its name suggests, so you may hear the occasional utensil clinking against a plate between songs. We were situated about ten feet from the stage right in the middle and had a speaker cabinet pointed right at us. There is little to no crowd noise. The shows were advertised as being 75 minutes, but both of the Friday shows ran longer. I realize he doesn't play like it's 1974 anymore, but for a man who is about to turn 74 he plays the hell out of the drums and plays better than most drummers half his age. If you get a chance, go see him. Enjoy! |
