Before everybody cracks up laughing thinking "what is a Johnny Mathis recording doing on a torrent site, is TAKRL long his mind?" let's just get a few things clear, Johnny Mathis is 82 years old. The audience was at least 3 decades older than TAKRL but Johnny Mathis played an stunning 2 hour show that left TAKRL amazed.
Please realize that Johnny Mathis is not calling in his shows, not only does Mr. Mathis tour with a 25 plus piece orchestra, he comes out does about 40 minutes, then he turned the stage over to a stand up comedian named Brad Upton. Mr. Upton put on a really good 25 minute comedy set.
Johnny then came out for his second set which is where his voice really shined. Johnny and his long time guitarist in the second set did a beautiful show.
If Johnny Mathis comes to town you could do a lot worse than seeing a really talented vocalist sing in front of a live orchestra.
The downside to this recording: the first few songs the mixer has Johnny's voice very low in the live mix. Johnny is singing in front of a live orchestra in a live setting which makes for a challenging live performance. During the second song an usher is trying to help a concert goer locate their seats. |
