CommentEvening Show

"Big Boss Man" & "Can't Help Falling In Love" on the Verve bootleg were from the previous day's evening show in San Bernardino, CA. An improved stereo tape source is to be released by the fan label Memphis Recording Service in spring 2025.

In attendance at the evening show was 3/4ths of the band Led Zeppelin. They were in Los Angeles promoting Swan Song, their fledgling record label. Because both Led Zeppelin and Elvis were promoted by Concerts West, Zeppelin was able to obtain tickets and attend the concert (which Elvis mentions during the false start of "Funny How Time Slips Away"). Zeppelin was also invited to meet Elvis after the show at the hotel the Elvis entourage was staying . Years later, during an interview, Robert Plant recalled fond memories of the evening which apparently went very well, and they enjoyed a ninety-minute visit with one another. At one point, Jimmy Page mentioned how Zeppelin rarely performed soundchecks because all Robert Plant enjoyed singing were his favorite Elvis songs. When Elvis asked which songs were his (Plant's) favorites, Plant mentioned the1956 classic "Love Me." At the end of their visit, as they were walking down the hotel corridor, Elvis stepped into the hallway and sang an impromptu "Treat me like a fool..." This caused an amused Robert Plant to turn around and sing the next verse back at Elvis. (Imagine the scene: Elvis Presley and Robert Plant at two ends of a hotel hallway, singing to one another.)
