This recording has major mix problems. Most significantly, the vocals are very low throughout, at times being barely audible. The guitars are way out in front and are in different channels. There is a clicking noise that starts up near the end of Stella Blue. It continues into El Paso and gets very severe for about thirty seconds within the first minute. It continues into Friend of The Devil as well. It is unknown whether this problem originated on the master or during a digital transfer. It seems likely to have originated from an early DAT in the provenance, as I have not heard of a copy without it, keeping in mind this is a rarely circulating show. This show is often listed as a reel master. The trademark zip-outs from reels running out are not present, which supports the likelihood of this being mastered on cassette. Besides the mix problems, the sound quality is very good for a cassette master. Thanks to Mark Sweeney edits/encoding by J. Cotsman |
