No tapes from this tour AT ALL?! That’s just not right. I was at the 2nd Beacon show - what an energy filled gig!! My god, these guys won’t slow down for a second. I had a lot of fun tracing given that there are hardly beginnings and ends of songs!! They show no emotion, not audience interaction up until the end when suddenly the whole place exploded with laughter, smiles, giggle and a whole lot of happiness! And the theatre was on fire! Yeah yeah yeah - I know - no Kim. But listen, Paz DOES fit - there is an awesome dynamic in the group now - and I have seen them with Kim, Kim-2 and now Paz… Now recording-wise - I was basically at the stage, on Paz’s side below the stage left hanging stuck. I went for the front row knowing that Pixies, in particular, just don’t want you to tape from the front row :) What I mean is that you get awesome guitars and bass BUT Black Francis’ vocals is gonna be light. And it is. It’s pretty buried in guitars in loud parts (I think more so at the beginning of the show - perhaps they adjusted?). I tape up-front at the Beacon all the time - every band there sounds fantastic - so I am beginning to suspect we need to write a letter to the Pixies sound guys tell them to bring vocals up a notch! :) Anyway - I think it is still a very enjoyable recording, especially after BLG’s touch-ups for brightness!
