So months ago, when this Pixies tour was announced, Hellspawn and I, both based in NYC, decided that I will take a trip down to Bethesda to tape the Strathmore show and Hellspawn will borrow my rig to try his chances in New Jersey. And so Monday January 20th, before the scheduled January 21st NJPAC show, we met up in a fine drinking establishment The Ginger Man, and I passed on the rig to him with some minimal instructions :) And the following night came the storm… And the show was rescheduled to the 28th. So two days later we were hmmm… forced (?) back to The Ginger Man so I could retrieve the rig for the sake of the January 24th Bethesda show (seeded here: http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=480467). Of course, Monday the 27th I was rushing straight from the station dragging my bags along to catch Hellspawn at work so our NJ taping plans would still be realized the following night! And they have! Alrighty, this is Hellspawn's first audio tape (unlike his huge accomplishments in the video department!), and first time he was using the rig. After my intense warnings to avoid clipping at all costs, and having noticed the red level lights pop up at the beginning of the first song, he turned the levels down radically. Too radically perhaps :) Thankfully, the recording was running at 24 bit, so bringing the volume up, as per BLG, does not entail much distortion. Overall, I think the tape turned out pretty good, especially after all BLG's magic!! I have no idea what the acoustics at the venue is like - some of you would know better how close to reality it turned out! So huge thanks to Hellspawn for taking this on despite all the conspiracies of the weather! (we are now past due at The Ginger Man - and I need my rig back ;) ) As always, enormous thanks to BLG for his skills and dedication in getting tapes 'up to speed'. Enjoy! inez Setlist: 01.
