FZShows has this as a B/B- and Walk seeded a copy (the one used as a basis for this seed) that he marked as a B-/C+. However, many of us agree that this is in fact a very nice recording, with a good balance and stereo image! It’s a bit too dark, maybe, and it does have some mechanical thumping noise on the right channel that is audible on the quiet sections, but still very enjoyable. For years samples of this copy have languished in the Sample sections, with only Kristoftof providing another source, deemed inferior. DLHotch finally reseeded Walk's original seed in the Shoebox in November 2014. No other superior copy has surfaced so far, so we have decided to present a speed corrected version of that version. No attempts on removing the thumping noise have been made: it is only very noticeable in the quiet sections (for example during preambles…) and unlike it has been suggested, this recording is not mono, so throwing away one channel means erasing some important sonic information. No patches available for the tape flip and the flaws. This is a quite good show, with many great solo by FZ, Ponty and Duke. There are a couple of interesting things happening: "Brown Shoes Don't Make It" unexpectedly opens the show, this is the first tape containing "Penguin in Bondage" with a guitar solo, there's an interesting (and hilariously substandard) early version of "T'Mershi Duween", a rare outing for this tour of "Willie The Pimp" and an interesting show ending with a "Be-Bop Tango" excerpt. It's also interesting to note that "Echidna's Arf" is introduced as "Excentrifugal Forz". Excellent versions of "Cosmik Debris", "Don't You Ever Wash That Thing", "Dog Meat" and "RDNZL". Get this, there won't be regrets. |
