J-Card CommentNotes from the uploader (CBG5150) I only have one request, that you don't take these files and post them on other torrent sites. I have many shows to upload. I will upload, let them get seeded by others and after a majority have downloaded the files completely, remove my files so I can seed something new. I prefer to manage my own shows on DIME and The Traders Den. I will upload to other sites when I wish to for select shows. Thanks for honoring my wishes in advance. This is “CBG 21st Century Master Video Series Vol.6”. So many years had passed since 1984 and seeing Van Halen at MSG and then for back to back nights at the Brendan Byrne Arena in NJ. I was in the third row both nights in NJ and in the same seats each night for those shows. I took pictures each night from that same seat with a little camera that looked like a 35mm camera with a steel cased electronic flash and a large detachable zoom lens but it took ‘instamatic’ 110 film if you can remember that? And I shot away. If you got caught with 35mm film, the security bouncers would rip it out of your camera in front of everyone. I made sure to show them my camera beforehand and they gave me the OK. Some really cool pictures. The next night, Dave recognized me right as the show started and slapped my hand as he went down on the small platform right to me, so did Michael afterwards. Michael even had some sunglasses thrown on stage that he put on and I was giving him the 1-sec sign with my one finger on my left hand as I focused the lens and lined him up to take a waist up shot of him. Then I pulled my head away from the camera and gave him a thumbs up and he immediately took the glasses off and threw them in the crowd. He waited for me to take the picture, very cool. That was back in my childhood years. I didn’t think that would be the last time I saw VH all together as the original band. But it was. 4 months later they would play their last show together and in April of 1985 went their separate ways and formed new bands. After the debacle at the MTV Music Awards in September 1996, where Ed and Dave almost came to blows backstage, what everyone thought would be a reunion of the original members, ended abruptly. After that, I honestly never thought we would see VH perform together as an original band. I guess that is still true after all these years and probably will remain that way forever. I know you never know, but it looks likely to be the case. But what was the most unlikely possibility, turned out to be the biggest surprise in 2007. Diamond Dave came back to be the front man for the Mighty Van Halen. I didn’t really believe it. We were teased in 1996, would it really happen?! When they announced the opening night of the tour, I figured I better make my way there because you didn’t know if something would happen between Ed and Dave that would make the whole tour get cancelled. So a lot of my friends and I made our way to Charlotte to see the opening night. The only thing that was sort of a downer was the fact that Michael was not going to be in the band. I never thought that would happen. He had a lot of energy and stage presence charisma, not to mention the backing vocal sound of the band. All those high end harmony backing vocals. Ed’s son would be playing bass this time around. A 17 year old kid?! Really? I remember him from two tours, one in Boston in 1993 where he was just 3 years old and he ran onstage. He had ear muff head phones on and started waving at the crowd. Then Valerie Bertinelli ran out, grabbed him, looked at the crowd, got a huge cheer, then picked him up to bring him off the stage. Probably to go change his diaper off stage! In 2004, on the Sammy reunion tour, Wolfie came out for a few shows while he was off from school, and played part of 316 (a guitar instrumental Ed used to play with an acoustic guitar against Valerie’s belly when she was pregnant with Wolfie). They sat side by side with Wolfie playing the rhythm part as Ed soloed away. That was cool. Who knew what to expect with him now being in the band. Deep down, before it even went down, most of the diehard VH fans wanted Michael in the reunion. They probably still do but that is another conversation. I mean, you wait 23 years to get David Lee Roth back into the band and one of the others that has been there all the way is not there now?! It didn’t seem right. It still doesn’t. I know Ed is not going to fire his son, but not bringing Michael back was wrong. But that all seemed to not matter on this night in Charlotte. We were going to see Dave and Ed play together for the first time in 23 years! And they were going to be doing all those great VH songs from the first 6 records. As a Van Halen fan, you really couldn’t be more excited. When they hit the stage, you could tell the show was a feeling out process. It was just great to see them playing those songs and Ed and Dave on the same stage. It wasn’t 1984, but who really thought it was going to be that way. You can’t turn back time 23 years. But you can enjoy the music and show for what it is now. It finally happened and it was fun. On this night, I would also meet Silver Stallion for the first time. We met after the show. Turns out we both filmed with the same cameras. That was cool. So now 7 years later, it has come together. This meeting would forge a friendship that will last forever. We have a lot to do for all of you (and us too!). So, enjoy opening night as I GIVE YOU, The Mighty.... Van Halen!! CBG5150 Posted to Dime 2014-08-23.
