I originally mastered this 2011-07-02. This one was 2 tracks each on 2 CDRs, & it sounded just fine. But it mostly had the left channel lower than the right / ya didn't see the levels cross much / 1 segment had levels way higher than the others. I used Cool Edit to do the following volume increases to the source tracks: * Track101 L up 4.5dB, R up 2dB / 102 L up 4.5dB, R up 1dB / 201 all up 3.5dB / 202 L up 4.5dB R up 2dB Now it's much more balanced & ya do consistently see levels cross. The original base source seemed to be 45min tapes, & cuts for tape flips match accordingly. But the disc track breakpoints introduced jibe with it being redone to 30min segments sometime after that. Luckily there was mid-song overlap at some of these points - between disc tracks 102/201 during Don't Be Cruel, & 201/202 during Love Me Tender. For those 2, I was able to seamlessly edit them together. The one that didn't / I can't see overlap was 101/102 during Shortnin' Bread, & the segments are butted together. Then did track breakdown, removed 20sec of mic bumps off the end, a SBE fix, FLAC'ed 'em up & this fileset is the result. Nothing else sonically was done to the source. The EAC report is retained just to demonstrate a clean extract. NOTES A very decent stereo tape, with nice separation, highs & lows. There's a spot around BK3 where perhaps the mic is muffled/obscured, & things aren't as clear as the rest of the show. Beyond that, it's all quite nice. Fast tape flips; the little bits missing are all very brief |
