All You Need Is Love (with Miro Zbirka) Duration: 1:02:42 ---------------------- Unsurprisingly, as my Slovakian is non existent I would really appreciate some help from our Slovakian friends as I have no idea what these tracks are called ... Concert notes (& thoughts) -------------------------- Sadler's Wells holds around 1,500 people at capacity but only around 1,000 tickets were sold. In fact, they decided to close the second circle and re-locate people down to the first circle (a nice upgrade for those guys!). As far as I could tell the audience was fairly evenly split with at least as many people (if not more) wanting to see Miro as opposed to Jon. I suspect there were a large number of Slovaks from the Olympic delegation who of course, just happen to be in town right now. Billed as a 'one-off' this was most certainly a very special evening. Miro playing the first half and Jon the second, coming together to close with a rousing rendition of 'All You Need Is Love'. Being primarily a Jon Anderson fan I knew nothing about Miro Zbirka. I spoke with the Slovakians next to me and they explained that he is the Slovakian Paul McCartney. Miro certainly did not disappoint and delivered a captivating set which really got the audience going. Jon started his set with 'Starship Trooper' and it was great to hear Jon's (& Yes's) songs performed with such different arrangements. Time and time again the Orchestra helped move the audience with powerful soaring highs and controlled, majestic lows. Jon's voice was strong throughout. Thoroughly enjoyable! I hung around after the show and was fortunate enough to once again meet (albeit briefly) with Jon and his wife Jane. He was a little tired but enthused and pleased with how the show had gone. I asked if he'd be singing 'Race To The End' at the Olympic closing ceremony and if that was why he was in town? He said no, but that he was really enjoying the Olympics and that it was a truly amazing event. I also asked about his health and he said that whilst he's made steady progress he's still not quite at 100% and, although he's enjoying performing, he would certainly not be undertaking any more of those 'crazy Yes tours!'. I thanked him for a great show and I was also able to personally thank him for something he did for me a short while ago (which he remembered!). As our conversation drew to a close (there were quite a few others waiting to speak with him) I thanked him again and he turned to give me a look, just a look ... a 'knowing' look which I found to be quite profound and somewhat moving. Before we left I also thanked Jane for looking after Jon ... a great night. I hope you enjoy the recordings and that Jon & Miro's light and love come across ... Relayerx9 August 2012 |
