Note | lineage: AKG D-190E microphones > Sony 158 cassette deck >
master tape (Maxell XL-I) > Maxell UD 7" reel > my copy (Maxell XL-I) > soundforge 4.5 > FLAC 6 > torrentially yours. (both as opener for the Jethro Tull Stormwatch tour) setlist: New York City 1: Caesar's Palace blues (fades in) 2: as long as you want me here 3: Alaska > presto vivace > in the dead of night 4: rendezvous 602 5: night after night 6: the only thing she needs 7: waiting for you (end cuts) Here are 2 very similar, good shows and recordings from the "Night After Night" U.K. tour. Each show runs about 45 minutes. Pretty good opening act, so good for Eddie Jobson that Ian Anderson invited Eddie to play in 1980 Jethro Tull tour (which he did well). I think the Boston one is a little bit better recording, and I helped record it from the 17th row on the floor. This is the opening end of the "My deck's sitting in a puddle of Pepsi" Jethro Tull show (upped from dramas recently, coming soon from my master), and it was almost a puddle for this set too, but the whole thing still came out well, the Pepsi never reached the tape or tape heads, me and a buddy held the AKG D-190-E microphones (bright silver) in the air for the whole show, and came home with very sore arms, but it was worth it. Hockey Arena UK! I'd rather have seen Holdsworth U.K. but never did. The Boston set sounds more like their poppy style. New York was a better performance I thought, especially by Wetton. (I'm a lifelong Boston Red Sox fan so no NY bias is involved in that judgement) Both are quite good though in sound and music quality. Both sound pretty clean with good fidelity. The Those AKG's aren't quite Sennheisers, but they did all right here. Since Terry Bozzio is one of my favorite drummers, the absence of Bruford (another of my favorites) doesn't exactly hurt here, but the absence of Holdsworth always hurts. They're still enjoyable shows to hear. the NY Rendevous is unusually long, maybe another song goes into it? There seems to be a UK thing going on here at dime, so I'm contributing 1 from the originasl version (Orpheum, Boston Oct. 78) and these 2 from the trio era, cuz even a trio UK is better than no UK at all. Both these recordings aren't quite complete, but only about one minute is missing of each show. So if you're OK with a three piece UK, you should find these enjoyable listening. It's hard to say ANYONE sounds better than Bill Bruford in UK, but Terry is just as good, I'd say, in both these shows, and Jobson is solid too. Do not sell these recordings. |
