This has long been one of my favorite concerts to listen to. The performance is good, but Fish is especially animated on this evening. From listening to Fish's comments during the show, he has been asked by the radio station to avoid swearing since they were broadcasting live. Initially he is well behaved in this regard, although he does make fun of the request repeatedly. By the time the 2nd encore is set to begin, Fish appears to be feeling quite good, and decides its free reign to begin swearing. Fish confirms the location several times during the show, also referring to Silicon Valley. He names San Jose a couple times as well, including the Garden Party encore, and names the Cabaret as the venue during MSH. These mentions in GP and MSH are significant, in that they confirm that these two audience tracks are taken from the same show as the first part of the broadcast. Most copies of the FM show in circulation are missing these last two tracks. Unfortunately, I never did find a single perfect source for this show. The most complete version of the FM recording was a couple gens down, and while it sounded decent, was noticably worse than the master source. Unfortunately, the master source I did obtain was not quite complete. It was missing the interview with Fish that aired prior to the show. It was also missing the Thieving Magpie intro, as well as the first 59 seconds of Slainte Mhath. There were also a couple occassions in the recording where a couple seconds were missing for some reason. It was also missing the final two songs of the show. What you have here is my attempt to provide the most complete version of this show, in the best quality currently available to me. I've used the low gen FM source for the interview, TTM, and the first 59 seconds of Slainte Mhath. This source switches seamlessly to the master FM source. (seamless, other than the noticeable change in sound quality.) I used the low gen FM to patch in the couple spots that were missing a second or two in the master FM source. Finally, I spliced Garden Party and MSH onto the end of the master source. Even the master FM source isn't the best of FM recordings. The mix varies a bit throughout, and I assume some of the warts are due to broadcasting live, rather than recording and mixing it better before airing it. So you have the complete show, although the quality varies a bit throughout. Duley - July 2005 |
