Lake Compounce Festival Park Bristol, CT, 4 September 1988 Soundboard AF002 Audifon EMIR Deutschland http://www.bobsboots.com/CDs/cd-l03.html Lineage: Legendary Tape/Great Source/ Myths, Stories and Legends: Silver: Vaio Bluray: Easy CD-DA Extractor using direct single pass to Flac: HC (freedom) Here’s one of the other legendary soundboards – but this one’s a little controversial and it’s taken some time to work out the history of the thing. Like Blow Out It has not been up for a long time on HC – probably before the crash / flood. It’s easy to get wrapped up in trees, tapes and CDs here so I’ve summarised the history as I can fathom it a couple of paragraphs down. Before that though ... ...for me it’s always been simple? When I listen to this its never been about CDs etc - its that I’m actually in the recording studio and heh, it’s just me, Bob and the band – I mean this is stuff you just dream of – I still can’t get over having something as special as this. I remember getting this and thinking ...what the %^^%^& .... And whatever anyone says this will always be just me, Bob and the band in a studio somewhere chatting away in the breaks between songs. The quality/mix of this is as good as it gets – it’s like a studio album – better in fact than some ;) This may sound strange given that this is in fact a concert – but it’s a soundboard that does not pick up anything except Bob and the music. It’s absolutely wonderful – and mad as hell given that it sounds like a studio album not a concert – all at the same time. IMHO think that’s why it so divides people – everyone thinks it sounds amazing, but is it too clinical? Others say that he’s emphasising words too much. Well I love the way he emphasises phrasing – that means to me he’s with us and I’m sure that Bob has spoken about how phrasing is at the heart of his live performances. We have all heard concerts where sometimes Bob isn’t there at all. Well he is here! Really here! With me and the band in the studio!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyway, for those of you who have not heard this – I think that you’re in for a treat but here’s the chance to make up your own mind. OK, so here is the complicated story for this one, and it goes something like this. Essentially there are three available soundboard Boots. (1) Lake Compounce Festival Park – Audifon EMIR (LCFP) (2) Wanted Man – Kiss the Stone (KTS) (3) Mr. Tambourine Man vol.4 – Banana (MTM) MTM is missing lots of tracks and artwork is a mess WM has gorgeous artwork, but sound is hissy, there is a timing issue (the thing was speeded up to fit the whole concert onto a CD and there is a bad edit on LARS) LSCFP – the one uploaded here -has perfect sound, good artwork but is missing Ramona There is some history on HC with WM – see http://www.hungercity.org/details.php?id=1027 Tokemaster Chris 7-21-06 speed corrected WM in 2006 leaving/creating the hiss (???) I have spent some time trying to work through all of this and IMHO the speed corrected version of KTS does not come close to LCFP. I’m not sure whether the above HC version was speed corrected or not – I have been comparing using Massimo’s version uploaded to Dime (thank you Massimo). Anyway, you can see how confusing it gets. In terms of pure source I have only LCFP. This said, for completeness, I have included Ramona from the speed corrected KTS Dime release because I have no idea where to get the equivalent LCFP source material. I have also included the complicated lineage text file for that single track. I have not heard the non speed corrected version – maybe some of the problems have come from the processing. There is a fourth really good aud version recently uploaded on HC - thank you to aaadbell! http://www.hungercity.org/details.php?id=7366 (thank you too to r9453 - gone but not forgotten). This of course, does not sound anything like the Soundboard – it’s just in a different universe. You cannot compare them, they are different animals. It’s not a better/worse thing, just different. Again, LCFP is like a studio album. It’s worth listening to both to appreciate the differences between sb and aud. I have again added comprehensive 300DPI high res. artwork. (Sorry -it’s brought up some scratches on the CD you cannot see with the human eye – this is well played!). It’s not quite as wow as the KTS but I wouldn’t trade our sound for their pictures!!!!!!!! Tracks Subterranean Homesick Blues I Don't Believe You Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues Ballad Of A Thin Man Had A Dream About You Baby Simple Twist Of Fate Highway 61 Revisited Rank Strangers Don't Think Twice Knockin' On Heaven's Door Silvio I Shall Be Released Like A Rolling Stone It Ain't Me Babe Masters Of War Maggie's Farm Extra added for interest to complete show To Ramona - KTS Wanted Man Speed Adjusted release – separate txt file attached in folder explaining lineage (Should be Track 7 after HW61) |
