From AllAboutJazz.com: July 23-28 Dr. Lonnie Smith Trio Featuring special guest James Carter Dr. Lonnie Smith is internationally known as one of the premier jazz keyboardists in the history of the idiom. A dominant talent and pace-setting proponent of the Hammond B3 organ and a widely recognized pianist, Smith has been at the forefront of the jazz scene since 1969 when he was named Top Organist by Down Beat Magazine. From his early years with George Benson to present day performances and recordings, Smith has acquired critical acclaim for his brilliant work in the jazz world. He earned the moniker ?Dr.? from his fellow musicians as a tribute to his ability to ?doctor up? their music when they had problems. After recording several albums with Benson, Smith became a solo recording artist and developed a career that has produced over 30 albums under his own name. He has performed with jazz artists such as Dizzy Gillespie, Grover Washington, Jr., Ron Carter, Lou Donaldson, and rhythm and blues greats Gladys Knight, Dionne Warwick, Etta James, and others. This week, he brings his dynamic, unforgettable style to Jazz Standard with the powerhouse saxophonist James Carter as a special guest. Born into a musical family in Detroit, James Carter developed his chops in the Detroit-based Bird-Train-Sco-Now, easily switching between tenor, alto and baritone sax. By the time he graduated from high school, he was invited to play in Wynton Marsalis? combo. Since then, Carter has established himself as a well-respected presence on the jazz scene with a string of successful and critically-acclaimed jazz releases. http://www.allaboutjazz.com/php/news.php?id=1444 length expanded size cdr WAVE probs filename 34:15.33 362579660 --- -- --- smithcarter2002-07-25t01.wav 23:24.03 247672700 --- -- --- smithcarter2002-07-25t02.wav 57:39.36 581.98 MB (totals for 2 files) |
