Two songs from the Move festival in Manchester, UK on 10 July 2004, as broadcast on UK TV station ITV1. 3. Four songs from the T In The Park festival, Scotland on 11 July 2004, as broadcast on BBC Scotland. All material on this DVD was recorded directly from DVB digital TV broadcasts using a PC DVB card - no analogue stages were involved. The video stream for Eurockéennes needed to be recompressed, but no other streams have been changed from the original broadcast data. All recordings are confirmed to be 100% error-free - i.e. no dropped frames. DETAILED DVD CONTENT 1. There was a technical problem with the first broadcast, causing a small glitch during "Gigantic" in all recordings of that broadcast. The second broadcast was error-free. NOTES ON VIDEO RE-ENCODING: The original video stream (which had a relatively low average bitrate of 3.0Mbit/s) contained 18-frame GOPs, which is not DVD compliant - most hardware DVD players cannot play it correctly - so the video needed to be re-encoded. The TV broadcast included the "MCM" logo contained completely within the black letterbox border at the top-right corner of the screen, so I took the opportunity to use a "blacken borders" filter to remove this logo during the re-encoding stage. The re-encoding was done using the "two-pass DVD" encoding settings of the Linux program "avidemux2" with GOP size set to 15, a maximum bitrate of 8000kbit/s and a target filesize of 3000MB. This filesize was chosen to be significantly larger than the source file (about 2000MB) in order to minimise any quality loss during the re-encoding. The resulting video has an average bitrate of 4.4Mbit/s with a maximum bitrate of 7.9Mbit/s. 2. The recording is confirmed to be free of reception errors - i.e. no dropped frames. ITV broadcast two highlights programmes from the Move Festival, but these were the only two Pixies songs included. 3. Tracks 1-3 were broadcast together in one segment on the T In The Park highlights programme on BBC Two Scotland on 23 July 2004. Track 4 was broadcast on the T In The Park highlights programme on BBC One Scotland on the night of the festival - 11 July 2004. Tracks 1, 2 and 4 were also broadcast on BBC Three on the night of the festival. This recording consists of the versions broadcast on BBC Two Scotland and BBC One Scotland - the BBC Three footage has an on-screen logo. Only these four songs have been broadcast to date on the BBC. |
