source There are 2 tape sources for this show, the main one used here, which is an excellent and well-balanced stereo tape, and RB's partial tape of most of the show. On the main source here there is a bit of tape-warbling near the end of the big medley, a few garbled seconds here or there and a tape-flip in Soon. This was patched with RB's tape. There are some other pauses and flips between songs, and the one before CoH cuts a bit of Jon's intro, but that part wasn't on RB's tape either. There is another small cut during the quiet intro to Awaken where a few seconds go missing. The transfers were done quite a while back, probably about 10 years. I received both tapes already transferred to disc and did the patching from RB's incomplete tape into the clearer tapehead2 source shortly after and did the patch in Sound Studio 2. No other EQ or processing was done. On my scale, remembering that this is MSG, I'd give it an "A-" for sound. There is no harp jam tonight, but switching Parallels with HoTS freshens up the second half of the show quite well. And tonight, Rick is the man with the Fun Time Freddy. We would all benefit from hearing more from these 3 nights in the Garden, but as the lifespan of cassettes go, even with pristene care this is the year they will begin degrading into mush. |
