| J-Card Comment | R.E.M. MTV Greece Launch Celebration Concert Kallimarmaro Panathinaiko Stadio Athens, Greece October 5, 2008 Ok... Hi again folks. This is the R.E.M. concert performance from the 'MTV Greece' launch celebration event. This was a day-long festival given at Panathinaiko Stadium in Athens, Greece. There were several groups in attendance giving performances all day long and R.E.M. was the closing act of the night. The word is that this was the major part of the longest uninterupted broadcast by MTV ever. This performance was edited perfectly from the end of the voice-over intro completely through to the end of their show and before the next closing announcements. A completely uninterupted hour and 28 minutes of R.E.M. from the MTV HD broadcast. It would have been just about a perfect broadcast except for the cheezy song title overlays MTV puts up during the show, but it's nothing majorly distracting... oh well. This torrent here has been downconverted from the High Definition (HD) 1080i to the PAL Standard Definition (SD) 576i screen resolution. And, therefore, it should be fully compatable with normal PAL playback that all of you might be using at this time. I used a vid bitrate low enough to fit this onto a DVD5. I might upload the 1920x1080i HD version in the future. I simply did basic authoring with no menu or chapters, and upon playback it will startup and play through on a continuous loop. All in all, a very good, high-energy show put on by the guys, and later on by playing quite warmly to the huge crowd that was gathered, they were also friendly and personable. One interesting thing that happens at the very end of the show is when Mike (off-camera) hurls his bass into the air, flubbs the catch and breaks the head completely off of it. It was his favorite concert playing one and it is the one seen in almost all live footage for awhile now. Surprised, you can see by all of their looks, and briefly talking to him about it during their bow as they start to leave the stage. You will have no problem in seeing that he was a bit upset about it. In my opinion, this concert performance is one that is very much worth getting. Enjoy...
