J-Card CommentR.E.M. Recorded live August 20, 1999 "Up" Tour World Music Theatre, Tinley Park, IL Recorded from about 13th rows in front of the huge amps suspended from scaffolding using a set of Premium Binaural Mics from the Sound Professionals. Recorded using my Sony MZ-R30 MiniDisc Recorder I nicknamed "The Bismark" (she's a big gray battleship). Transferred from original MDs via TOSlink fibre optic cable on November 20, 2006 using a Sony MDS-JE510 into ADS Tech Instant Music. Recorded as 44.1kHz WAV via USB using SoundForge 4.5. Fades created using Cool Edit Pro. Absolutely no EQ or any manipulation of WAV. This is a straight digital transfer from my MiniDisc masters. WAV split using CD Wave Editor. SBEs fixed using Traders Little Helper. Logfile included. I made an MD5 checksum file of the original WAVs. Logfile included. Use it to scan your decoded FLACs, to ensure lossless. Encoded to FLAC Level 7 with Sector Boundry Allignment using Traders Little Helper. I made an inferior CD mastering of this show in 1999. I am unaware of any other audience sources of this concert, so any version in the trading circles is probably my show from the inferior CD mastering. This version began last night as an experiment with my new USB sound doohickey made by ADS Tech called the Instant Music box. Features TOSlink I/O for you people who, like me, were looking for an affordable alternative to a $175 Soundblaster X-Fi Platinum soundcard. A great performance. Wilco opened, but I didn't capture their show. I almost didn't capture any show that night! During intermission, while I was setting up for REM, I was momentarily harassed by Security. It seems that someone from the stage had spotted me in the 13th row with my mics and equipment. The Security guard approached me and scared the poop out of me, but I acted cool as a cucumber, denied having any recording equipment, and he went away. Unfortunately, his artwork mentions the song "Hope" as being performed. I believe Chico obtain an inaccurate setlist from a unofficial website. I did a Yahoo search for REM setlists 1999 tour, and I found only one site, and it too had "Hope" as being performed. I recorded the whole kit & kaboodle on this show. If someone can find the song "Hope" somewhere in the encore (between d205 and d206?) please let me know and I'll fix the indexing. Enjoy! roy_burns_cdrs@yahoo.com
