NoteDirected by Mike Connolly, 'Peter Green - A Hard Road' was first broadcast on BBC2's The Works, on 10 March, 1996. Peter Green, the legendary blues guitarist and co-founder of the band 'Fleetwood Mac', is documented here on his 1996 comeback. After spending the past 25 years in and out of mental institutions, Green is playing his guitar again with his newly formed band 'The Splinter Group' featuring late drummer Cozy Powell. This is a rather poignant and at the same time riveting look at the guitarist behind 'Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac' and writer of songs such as "Black Magic Woman', 'Oh Well', 'Rattlesnake Shake' and many others. Green recounts his painful experiences with LSD and the subsequent years of electro-shock therapy and endless medications which ultimately diminished his desire to play.We follow The Splinter Group as they are rehearsing for their first gig at an Alexis Korner tribute concert, recording a single for IRS Records and finally their much anticipated gig at the Guildford Folk & Blues Festival. Eric Clapton is seen backstage at the Guildford Festival encouraging his longtime friend Peter Green, as The Splinter Group get ready to play their set. The amazing clip of Playboy's Hugh Hefner introducing Fleetwwod Mac at his mansion was on a show called "Playboy After Dark" airing 17 February, 1970 and can be found in its entirety on the officially released "Fleetwood Mac - The Early Years".
