Sorry, no artwork. Comments: Great recording from relatively early in Jimmy Page's only (so far) solo tour. The setlist is pretty standard here, but the performance is outstanding -- as most Zep fans know, the band tended to put on mind-blowing performances in L.A., and Jimmy carries on the tradition here. With this tour, he set out to disprove the general feeling that his playing had declined too much to support touring (an impression that wasn't helped by his lackluster performances at Live Aid 1985 and the Atlantic Records concert in early 1988), and his shows throughout the tour tended to be great. This one's amazing; he's on fire throughout. His guitar parts bring life even to songs I don't especially like . . . I really enjoyed listening through this show. The recording has excellent fidelity, and was taped by a famous Zeppelin audio- and video-taper from California; he obviously used good equipment. Instruments and vocals are well-balanced, and crowd noise (except for one persistent screamer somewhat in the background) doesn't intrude. I used Audix to break up the tracks; no further processing was done. This one is well worth the d/l for Zep fans who haven't heard anything from this tour. It's a good one. |
