10th Annual Georgia State Bluegrass Festival (Shoal Creek Bluegrass Festival) - spps-anon1C185 Shoal Creek Country Music Park Lavonia, GA July 30, 1978 Anonymous Collection 1 Cassette #185 picks up where Cassette #181 leaves off, with the tail end of the June 30, 1978, 10th Annual Georgia State Bluegrass Festival (Shoal Creek Bluegrass Festival), Shoal Creek Country Music Park, Lavonia, GA set by the Seldom Scene (John Duffey-mandolin, Mike Auldridge-Dobro, Ben Eldridge-banjo, Phil Rosenthal-guitar, & Tom Gray-bass). A marvelous Sunday morning gospel set by Bill Monroe & His Blue Grass Boys (Bill Monroe-mandolin, Kenny Baker-fiddle, Butch Robins-banjo, Wayne Lewis-guitar, & Randy Davis-bass) follows. Monroe receives wonderful gospel choir support at the end of the set from The Boys of Indiana (including Harley Gabbard), The Jones Brothers, Hubert Davis & The Season Travelers (Davis formerly played banjo with Monroe), John Duffey, and the American Bluegrass Express (Marty Raybon along with his father Ken, and brothers Rick and Tim), among others. There is some hilarious spontaneous banter between Duffey and Monroe after the set. |
