Note2 discs for show 1 disc for 50 min soundcheck

Well, well, well....here we have something special. As far as I know, this show makes its
world-wide debut right here, right now. (Or not.. I suspect this will cause other versions of
this show to start coming out of the woodwork)...

Generally speaking, Pete Wibrew's Ozric gig guide is the most accurate listing
of Ozric gigs out there. If you check out the entry for April 30, 1994, it's
blank. To my [previous] knowledge, and perhaps to Pete's as well, there was
no recording of this show - we don't even know the set list.

Before I talk about the show, I want to let you all know how this show came into my
possession. A couple months ago I got a PM from one Christopher Nokes, who
says - "hey, I got a couple Ozric shows, but not the computer facilities to post
them. Could I send a few to you and have you post them?". Well, duh...yeah,
you can do that...I see the list, and my jaw drops {drool}. Real choice stuff -
and for several, Chris is the taper of the show too. Well, *hello* - I say, "bring
'em on!". I've already posted a couple of Chris' shows, by the way. The
Jaxx Niteclub from March 1999, and the Falls Church June 2006 shows
I got from Chris. For several of these shows Chris made the commitment to
trust me enough to send his original master cassettes which I appreciate
enormously. I am extremely pleased and honored to share these shows
with you. But, also, in your comments, please send Chris a big shout out,
and thank him for sharing this with you as well.

This is from the Whiskey A Go Go in Los Angeles, California (Hollywood!) on
April 30, 1994. This is the last date of the spring '94 US tour.

Chris was the taper for this show, and here are a few of his recollections:

=======================================================================

Well, I was there at the show nice and early on Saturday in Hollywood, 30apr94.
Met up with Jim Collins, who ran the fan club, and sat me down to record the
70min soundcheck. Not too much, but a nice documentation of the boys setting
up for their last '94 spring US tour and show. Funny, I drove around Hollywood
in a mad scramble attempting to find a special cable to hook into the board.
C-Live said I needed a Y-RCA L/R 1/4 male (desk) to a 1/8th male (Sony portable
D-6). I was not as prepared to set up with those cables so I recorded from the
audience. I was in touch with a guy, Marc Decarlo from New Haven, Conn. and
he gave me the info to attempt the desk recording. He was the taper for the
19apr94 NYC gig, both desk and tripod video. As stated, had some problems
on 30apr94 with the first track and I was therefore lucky to record and be there.
I know of at least one other full audience tape of the show that a guy taped
with a Sony D-3. Unsure if it ever surfaced.

=======================================================================

This torrent also includes the recording of the soundcheck/rehearsal. Here is the
lineage info (all recorded from the upper deck, center of venue) :

For the actual show:
DSM-6P condensor mics --> Sony D-6 --> cassette --> CD-R --> image extraction
with EAC ---> tracks ripped with Sound Forge 7.0 --> FLAC Level 6

For the soundcheck:

Everything the same except:

[master] cassette --> Onkyo TA-RW344 deck --> Dell 8250 (with Sound Blaster Live!) -->
Sound Forge 7.0 --> FLAC Level 6

Quality of this show rates 8.5-9.0, B+/A-. The recording itself is *excellent*, but there
are a couple of small glitches. As Chris notes in the above excerpt, Og-Ha-Be is
joined in progress, and later, there is a gap and fade-in between the end of "The
Throbbe" and "Space Between Your Ears", also joined in progress. There is some
volume fluctuations here and there, but hardly noticeable. During "Jurassic Shift"
there is a fade out/fade-in at about the 8:53 mark. The highlight of the show for
me has been the Dissolution --> The Throbbe section.

The sound check is extremely interesting in spots - at one point, they briefly
run through the "Vibuthi Jam" which they had been tacking onto the end of "Dissolution"
during the fall US tour of '94 and which became "Vibuthi" on the "Become the Other"
album a couple years later. Fascinating stuff. No edits were made on the soundcheck.
