Note | The entire video is shot from the side of the stage, front row. The angle rarely changes, there are no closeups and zoom is never used. Still a hot show, though. |

Tech Note | Sir Douglas Quintet Singer Songwriter Festival Fruitgen, Switzerland May 27, 1994; NTSC DVD Unknown Gen VHS>DVD>DVD decryptor During the recent Doug Sahm flood, some people were requesting video of Doug. Here is the first installment. I hope you enjoy it. Read the quality description below; video of the man is hard to find. This is the killer band that recorded the last great Sir Douglas Quintet CD, "Day Dreaming at Midnight." They perform some of the songs from that CD as well as some other classics. The drummer is "the" Doug Clifford from Creedence. This is NOT the typical quintet show, you will love it. I do not want to misrepresent the video quality. Both the video and the audio are a B (or VG). The video is not quite as clear as you would want and the sound is lacking clarity due to the postion from which the recording was made. It is listenable though. IF YOU HAVE A BETTER COPY, NOW IS THE TIME TO UPLOAD IT! The entire video is shot from the side of the stage, front row. The angle rarely changes, there are no closeups and zoom is never used. So, why bother? This is THE MOST FUN Doug Sahm show on video that I have. Doug is just having a blast (must be some hot women in the audience) and there is A LOT of energy in the performance. It is not just the same old thing over again, the band is great. John Jorgenson is incredible and breathes new life into old favorites (dig his slide on "Texas Me"). Doug was a genius at blending styles, and that is on display here. He spontaneously changes arrangements here and there. So, the quality of the performance is so kick ass that any Sir Doug fan will enjoy this recording despite its technical limitations. If you aren't having fun watching this, you need to twist one, open a beer and catch up with Doug.
