Tech Note | Remastering Notes from the Original seeder: I downloaded this set from bt.easytree.org on Nov. 12 of 2004. The sound is great, but it was seeded with some nasty silences in the audience noise at the tracks transition points. This, and a few other small issues were fixed with Adobe Audition 1.5, in the following order: -Removed small gaps of silences between each track and smoothed so that the audience noise is continuous. -Track 16 contains just audience noise, but at it's conclusion was a very harsh cut-off that lead into a quieter audience preparing for the first encore. I removed the gap and smoothed these two sections together and they now flow perfectly. -The set was retracked as the transtions were previously in the middle of the audience noise. I moved them to be closer to the start of each song. Also, track 18 was split into two, as the introduction where Joni is bringing her "friends" on stage was rather long. -DC Bias point adjusted; the waveform is now cenetered about 0dB -From Track 13 onward, the recording was slightly right-leaning. I boosted just the left channel of this segment 2.5 dB, and it balances nicely now. -Genlte fade-in on track 1 to remove the audience noise harsh start. -End of show had a 2 second fadeout applied to the audience noise. Remaining audio issues (unfixed): -The audience noise at the end of track 10 cuts out abruptly before returning in time for the beginning of track 11. This is from the analog source. -Track 12 cuts out for a tape flip in the midle of the song. The audio returns a bit later, cutting into Joni's into to track 13 There is an outstandingly low hiss floor, and this tape must come from some fairly high grade analog recorders. There is some distortion during certain louder parts, and so the sound can't be ranked a solid A, but is an easy A- with the clarity being what it is elsewhere on the tape. Excellent sound indeed. The set does not have a pedigree lineage, but it is digitally clean and lossless, so has not deteriorted during its digital lifetime. It should be noted that no EQ, hiss reduction, or other audio quality editing was employed. |
