| Note | Ozric Tentacles - The Zappanale 13 Festival, Bad Doberon Germany July 27, 2002
Here's a fairly obscure show from the summer of 2002. The Zappanale Festival is held in honor of the memory of Frank Zappa every year for the past 17 or 18 years. Here is a quote from the Zappanale web site about this show: "After a reconstruction break which was far too long the Ozric Tentacles played. Their psychedelic space rock has nothing in common with Zappa, but was presented in a convincing way with a nice light show. The introverted Brits know how to celebrate a heavy bombastic sound with swing." The band, during this time, had a light touring schedule for July through October of 2002. March and November were quite busy, beginning with many UK shows in March and shows in Italy for November. Drummer Rad had been replaced by Schoo at the end of 2000 or beginning of 2001. This show is a pretty good recording, and I would rate it a B/B+. The set list is very much like the Pongmaster's Ball set list from March of the same year. There is some chatter during the music, but I don't find it intrusive, but rather, part of the sounds of a live concert. The recording is incomplete however and does NOT include the encore, "Kick Muck" and "The Throbbe". Other than that, there are no obvious glitches in the recording. I received the original CD-Rs in a trade with one of my usual trading partners shortly after the show took place. Since the show is incomplete, I have chosen to include on disc 2, as bonus tracks, a couple of (soundboard) recordings from the October 13, 1994 show at The Trees in Dallas Texas. This Dallas show, to my knowledge, has never circulated as a complete show. The two filler tracks are: "The Throbbe -> Beard of Joy -> Erpland", and "Dissolution -> Vibuthi Jam", both highlights of that Dallas show. There is one crucial suggestion I have to listening to this show. Play it LOUD!
