J-Card Comment | The Stan Ridgway Band: Stan Ridgway: guitar, harmonica, vocals Pietra Wexstun: keys, electronics, vocals Rick King: guitar, bass, vocals Joe Berardi: drums, percussion, electronics This one goes out in honor of i86time who has kept the Stan/WOV flowing on Dime in the last few months. Big thanks as well to the others (tripsnpig, Phil G, suburbanDK) who have shared recently. As you will hear Stan mention between a couple of songs, this was the first show of a 20-something show tour celebrating the 25th anniversary of Wall Of Voodoo's "Call Of The West". The bugs were still being worked out and there were some definite bumps in the road, but all-in-all it was another fun performance by the band. I made some new friends as well (see track 6). I'll tell you, there are some SERIOUS Stan fans here in AZ. The sound is good, but not great. There's a small hiccup a few seconds into the first track... don't know what happened there. Levels and EQ have not been adjusted from the original recording, so you get some quiet points with the acoustic tunes and then hit with some of the louder tracks. Not too bad, though, and certainly an enjoyable listen. I've fiddled with cleaning this one up (EQ, spacialization, levels) but it has always ended up being one of those "I'll Do It Tomorrow" kind of things. No more procrastination. More to come! One more note: there was another taper there who got permission from Stan to set up large condenser mics on each side of the stage. Anybody out there know of other recordings of this show? I'm interested to see if anything has circulated. |
