comments:
Chick comes back home again for 2 sold out shows at the Boston Opera
House, this is the 1st of them, I think complete except one quick tape
flip. A splendid performance, they always are in Boston with Al (much
the same for Chick, and Stanley, and Lenny) up to and including this year,
a very good year for DiMeola (also with John and Paco trio 81 & 83. This
isn't quite as hot as the legendary 11/14/75 Boston concert, but still
a better than average RTF show (not that average RTF is anything bad at all)
with some choice songs. I feel the best Al DiMeola, and probably the best
Chick Corea music I've heard was between 1973 for Corea, 74 for DiMeola,
and 76 for Corea, all the way up to 83 for Al. They're all on for this one.
This one might be a Purple Moon production, one of my RTF 83 shows is but
not certain if this or 2nd show. I'm upping this one because it's the
better quality. Both shows are quite good, the other one is close to this
in sound but a little less close up. Not sure where the taper's seat was
here, but this sounds like a You are There production (the Purple Mooners
have had a few of those too). I have 81 available now too, that 83 show
will come eventually, since it's a Stud Muffin Production (=Sony D-5 and
Naka. mikes). Speaking of, by the way, there is one of those with this 83
RTF tour in NYC, and I thought about upping that instead, it is a fine show
too and the usual Stud Muffin Production sound quality, but I thought this
show is the best of the 3 I have (IMHO) and the sound rivals a Stud Muffin
Production. I think this was recorded a little closer (NYC only got 1 show,
Boston got 2, each about 135 minutes. How often does that happen?) and the
Opera House sound is better than the Palladium, from what I've been told of
it and heard for myself at the Opera House. I didn't see these shows. Wish
I had. This was a nice reunion tour. The only new songs (at this time) were
a medium one, a real short one, and a long one. According to Lenny White,
anyway. The Opera House is a nice sounding place, every time I've been there
it's sounded good (even without 3rd row center seats), but like most places
maybe not from the nosebleed seats.
Do not sell this recording.
Trade freely and losslessly.
