Tech NoteIncubus 2007/08/25 The Gorge George, WA Video: MPEG2 NTSC Video 720x480 (16:9) 29.97fps 4500Kbps (avg) Audio: PCM 48000Hz stereo 1536Kbps Source: Sony DCR-HC46 > Mini DV 16:9 (x2) Lineage: Mini DV > IEEE.1394 > Adobe Premier Pro CS3 > Adobe Encore CS3 > DVD Folder Taper: anonymous Editor: KarneDawg3 A Sony HandyCam DCR-HC46 to record the entire show. Two tapes needed to be used, but the transition was made very quickly between songs, so only about 15 seconds of "off" time was lost. We were about 300' from the left hanging stacks, on the first grass tier up against the fence, for those familiar with the layout of the Gorge. The was a very prime spot to be in for recording as it allowed us a good view while remaining discrete. The audio is good-ish, which I'm pretty surprised about considering how far away we were. During the show, I felt like the bass was a little heavy in the mix, and was concerned with the wind factor. But these didn't 'kill' the audio as much as I thought they would. With that said, the audio isn't perfect but it's very listenable. Overall, the show was great. The setlist was on par with what they've been playing lately, as Mikey's hand doesn't permit certain songs while he's recovering from the surgery he had several months ago. For those of you NOT familiar with the Gorge, it's an absolutely stunning venue. As you'll see in the video, the Columbia River holds a scenic position in the background. And as the sun sets, the skyline over the mountains is awe-inspiring. Incubus was lucky enough to start playing while the sun was still up, and have the sun set over the course of their performance. Truly beautiful. Video was captured in Adobe Premier Pro CS3. Very little editing was done in an effort to preserve the video as it was recorded. A three-second fade in was added to the beginning. Fade ins/outs were used around the 57 minutes mark in an effort to smooth the transition between the tapes. And it ends with a 10 second fade out. This works well with the ending song, Aqueous, as Kilmore leaves the stage with the crickets still playing. Video was exported to Encore, and menus were added. This includes a Main menu with options to "play all" or "select song." "Select Song" brings you to various chapter index sub-menus where you can jump to the specific song you'd like to view.
