Tech NoteCDA, FLAC and DVD Video I had to do alot of work to get Sound out of this. I was VERY pleasantly surprised, and you will be too! VDR-220 VOB > Magic Video Converter > Sound Forge 9.0* > WAV (*) Here is all the steps I had to do to make this sound good. 1) First of, I set my stero with equalization set to get the best audible sound from the crappy staing point. This is an important step since the following steos are adjusted around what is to be the final equalization (this is an old trick I learned from experience). 2) Resample to 24 bits 3) -15 dB RMS normalization 4) .45 stero expansion 5) Audio Restore plugin 6) -6.88 dB Peak Normalization 7) +6.9 dB loudness 8) -8 dB Peak Normalization 9) +3.9 dB PanExpansion 10) Bass De-esser 11) Graphics dynamics for a subtle compression 12) Maxx Bass (this gave some nice warmth to it) 13) Now I turned OFF the equalization on my stereo (to Flat equalization) and used a partameteric euqlization in SF to get the sound to sound like it did with the equalization on the stereo. 14) There were a handlful of clips. I usewd a -1dB Clip Removal and peak rounding to get rid of hot peaks. 15) Resample back to 16 bits for CDA. 16) DVD is a mix of the video and sound. The original sounds like, well, a crappy video cam recording. The final result is outstanding!
