Personal notes: "I will back up Lou's comments to a point: Yes, the show was somewhat of a letdown for me. After having never seen VH with DLR at the helm, hearing all the latest bootlegs from this tour, and viewing what few full-length videos have been made available from this tour, I was really psyched to this show. What I saw on Friday night was, more or less, somewhat of a disappointment. There were some personal hi-lights ("Everybody Wants Some!!" being one of them), but if I had to use any term to describe the show as a whole, it would be "rushed". Everything I have heard/seen on every '07 tour bootleg to date was NOT present that evening. It was as though they were obviously there just to collect that night's fee for playing, and then be on their way. But, having never seen this version of the band live, I was still happy I went to this show. After all, who knows what the future will hold for Van Halen once this tour is complete. We had, in my opinion, very good seats, until we were moved to another section. The section we were in originally was the exact section I was hoping to get when the tickets went on sale. My wife broke her ankle a few weeks prior to the show, so security was kind enough to move us one section over to an enclosed area meant for disabled people, in order to prevent people from stepping on her cast. This shift in seating was a dream come true and made for a nice recording. I had the PA's pointed directly at me, nobody standing behind me, or next to me, and the people in front of us were located about 5 steps down with a glass partition that ran up to my waist separating us, which greatly prevented any of the usual drunk-talk bullshit. Basically, my wife & I had our own little private section. I had my gear strapped to my chest, thus I was able to get a nice, clear recording. Funny side-note: at one point, right before the show started, the security supervisor for that section walked up to us to see that we were okay, and, I still had my gear affixed to my chest while we were seated. As he sat down to speak to me, he didn't even notice that my mic was plainly staring him in the face. The acoustics in the venue were much better than I expected, seeing as how it had just opened up a few weeks prior to the show. This was definitely the best recording I have ever done at an indoor venue and is damn near flawless. Short of plugging my gear into the mixing desk, I couldn't have dreamed of a better recording. I omitted a small portion from Alex's solo where he dives into the synthesized latin beats, something he's done as part of his solo since '95. Seeing as how the band were quickly going from one song to the next, I knew I’d have very little time to change out discs, so I sacrificed that part of his solo. And, as I said previously, since it's nothing we haven't heard him do since '95, I figured it's nothing anyone would miss. A major "Thank You" to "Uncle" bobS23 for the transferring, mastering, and posting process of this show. He works his magic like no other! Enjoy the show, everyone!" |
