Note366mb/55min,
first known REM live recording, includes 7 tracks from 6/6/1980
This recording has been heavily processed using soundforge to restore
left channel volume, boost volume levels and where possible edit song
transitions smoothly. It has been retracked to conform with the recently
researched setlist details that place the date of this show as May 30th
1980. Track 8 has unfortunate sound erosion between 0:19 and 0:36
probably due to deterioration on the master tape. Track 14 cuts off
after 2:56. Other fade outs and fade ins are noticeable but as this
tape source lay unnoticed in a box for the best part of 25 years it is
remarkable how good the sound quality is.

Tracks 15-22 were previously released as part of REM-08, however this
source is far better quality and as it was recorded 6 days after the
40 Watt show it's the perfect companion.

CommentOriginal note with posting on easytree.com:
"I found an old cassette tape that had this on it. Based on things said during the show and the setlist, I'm pretty sure this is from the Summer of 1981 in Athens. After looking at the R.E.M. timeline, i'm realizing this might be the first very old recording to surface in a long time. This doesn't seem to match any setlist I've ever seen before. I do not have very good audio editing equipment, so all of this is on one track. I urge someone to break it into tracks and repost this, as i'd like as many people to have a copy as possible. please place mercurylines.com in the notes field if you edit this."

From murmurs.com:
"Yesterday a murmursian found a tape lying around his house with some early live tracks on that he couldn't match with a known setlist. He immediately upped it on easytree to get some thoughts on it and share it around.

After some deliberation amongst ourselves and with a big helping hand from Adventures in Hi-Fi author, Tim Abbott, we reckon we've got a date and a venue: The 40 Watt Club, 30 May 1980. This predates the Wuxtry recordings by a week and is less than 2 months after their first ever show.

The tape also contains at least one, but possibly three REM originals which have never made it into the open before."
