Note
Dick Cheese & the Crackers

Here's an interesting CD I received in trade a couple years back from Greg Gilleland, a guy who played drums in the band. I'll include his notes below, some of which were responses to my guessing the song titles (in CAPS), and the corrections. This is a fun Bar Band show to listen to, and one none of your friends is going to have.

Greg's notes ....

Dick Cheese was a blues/rock/country band I played
drums for in the 90's. Great bunch of guys, That
particular show includes a great tune called I'm gonna
kill you by Isaac Peyton Sweatt, RIP, who is famous for
being Johnny Winter's 60;s bassist and also the author
of the great country dance tune The Cotton Eyed Joe,
long story there but a Houston boy. I recorded this
show off a stereo DAT.

Here's some more info, dude:

I am 44 and back in '86 was in law school and playing
drums in an orig hard rock band called RADIO X with a
bassist named Woody Oakes. Me and woody got along well.
Woody is 8 years older than me. Woody and some of his
long time music buddies had a band called ROY OYSTER
AND THE PEARLS, the precursor to Dick cheese.

In Roy Oyster, Phil Stevens was the driving force,
vocalist and very talented lead guitarist. In 89, he
moved to AUstin to seek fame and fortune. In Roy
Oyster, Dick Cheese was playing drums, when Phil left,
Dick moved up to guitar and vocals and I came in on
drums and of course Woody was still playing bass. A
great but very loud (I have the hearing loss to prove
it) guitar player/vocalist Sal Tine came in when I did,
so we became Dick Cheese and the Crackers.

All these guys are 8-10 years older than me and turned
me on to lots of tunes I'd never heard before. Dick
Cheese, used to play drums behind Issac Peyton Sweatt
and lots of other infamous Houston bands. That's where
He learned all the cornpone country licks on guitar.
