Show/Recording Notes: WOW! What an amazing show! It definitely pays to be on the Habit mailing list. This was one hell of a night. But the show you hear almost didn't happen, and that brings me to my most important advise to anyone who tapes or is thinking about taping... DON'T DRINK UNTIL YOU PRESS THE RECORD AND PLAY BUTTONS. :-) Yes- that's right, I forgot to press the play button when I hit the record button. Because of that, I lost the first 8 tracks of the first set- almost. Luckily, there was a guy from New Mexico, David Farrell, who was there. He was traveling around, and had his portable DAT deck with him. He didn't, however, have any mics so I was glad to give him a mic feed from my deck. In all the commotion at the beginning of the set, I wanted to get him sound to tape, and I must have forgotten to press the play button with the record button. Dave was WAY COOL though. After getting home, he was cool enough to send the DAT master my way so I could extract the tracks. With some clever mixing, you would never know there were two tapes... mainly because the mics were the same on both tapes. :-) Dave proves that there are some exceedingly cool people out there. The other cool person was the owner of Maxwell's who, at first, didn't want us to setup. Upon showing him the small size of the rig, he let us setup. I guess I owe Maxwell's a copy too. OK... the show. Well, as you can see by the set list, there are a bunch of tunes here that he does not normally sing, and the ones he does sing were really awesome. I think this entire show will go down as the best I've seen. Marty was tight, and the communication with Joe was almost psychic. The crowd was great, and at times listening to the tape, you'd be hard pressed to hear another soul making a noise. And just when you thought he had done it all, he breaks into a bunch of Led Zep, Pink Floyd, a Yes tease, and a 30 minute Gypsy Woman. This one is a keeper. Happy New Year Marty!
