Comment | Bob Harris hosts a live performance from Joan Armatrading at the BBC Maida Vale Studios, in front of a small audience.
Joan, who reaches the end of a UK tour on Tuesday 8 May, performs with her band tracks from her new album, Into The Blues, as well as some of her classic songs. She says of the new album: "It's the CD I have been promising myself for a long time." One of Britain's most honest female artists who has stood the test of time, with songs including Love And Affection, Willow, Drop The Pilot and Lovers Speak, Joan has 17 albums to her credit and her most recent achievements have included being nominated as one of the 100 most influential women in rock. Aside from music, in 2001 and after five years of studying, Joan received her BA (Hons) Open University Degree in History. In 2003, Joan was invited to become one of the Trustees of the Open University. She was elected President of Women of The Year in the United Kingdom in 2005 for a term of five years.
