| J-Card Comment | Patti Smith Pearl Street, Northampton, MA September 7, 1999 This was one of those nights when I felt my age creeping up on me. Patti was preceeded by (IMO) one of the worst, most pathetic and interminable opening acts I've ever had to live through. By the time she came onstage I was ready to call it a night. Patti was tired too, and obviously emotionally drained, as her father had just passed away. She had a hard time staying on key. The club was hot and airless at the end of summer, and Patti was talkative. Thurston Moore, who had recently moved to the Northampton area, was in the audience for morale. The sound on the tape is high and slightly wobbley, but otherwise very good. I guess the quality rates a B+, though you might call it B.
